To secure the award, the local school worked in partnership with Dundee University and schools across Europe and the wider world to create an outstanding project using digital collaborative tools. eTwinning, the digital community for schools has seen over 860,000 teachers from 44 countries across Europe and beyond register since 2005. The programme is funded by the European Commission as part of the Erasmus+ programme and is managed in the UK by the British Council. The eTwinning National Award is issued to schools that produce outstanding work as part of their eTwinning partnership.

Mr. Lyndon Lewis, Head Teacher at Ysgol Hendrefelin paid tribute to his colleagues Mrs. Ruth Sanders (International Coordinator) and Mrs. Charlotte Hopkins who led the projects: “We are delighted to have been awarded this eTwinning National Award and also Project of the Year 2020. Everyone at Ysgol Hendrefelin has enjoyed working in conjunction with Dundee University and partners across the world on Hands of the World: Can You See What We Say”. To secure the award is a real honour for the pupils and teachers who participated in the project and has involved whole school participation. The eTwinning project has developed a knowledge and understanding of different European cultures and languages and has helped our pupils gain valuable skills for their future lives and careers.”

The judging panel’s comments for the winning project were:

This is an exceptional project, unique in its concept and delivery. Distributed leadership, student voice and increased ownership through the use of local language propelled this project to a heightened level.  Engaging, curriculum rich activities ensures a total sense of joy and participation which permeates the student’s response to the learning adventures. Clearly exemplified in a superbly constructed twinspace is a wealth of deep learning opportunities for both staff and students. The extended international engagement takes this concept and eTwinning to a global audience. A very worthy award winner and also ‘project of the year’ eTwinning UK 2020.

POSITIVE COVID-19 CASE PROTOCOL

Dear Parent or Carer,

In the case of a positive test of Covid-19 at Ysgol Hendrefelin the following protocols will take place:

  • If your child has a positive result for Covid-19 you must immediately contact Ysgol Hendrefelin via this email address. This email address should only be used for this purpose.

covid.ysgolhendrefelin@npt.gov.uk

Do not send this information to the normal school email address.

  • The email only needs to include the name of the child, date of birth, contact name of parent/carer and an accessible telephone number.
  • A member of the School Leadership Team will contact you as soon as possible.
  • The school will liaise with Public Health Wales and Test, Trace and protect Team to find out the next steps.
  • If a class “bubble” or site “bubble” is to be asked to self-isolate all parents/carers and pupils will be notified through text. It is vital that you notify school if you change your mobile number.
  • You will also be notified by email and class dojo if possible.
  • If we are informed of a positive test of Covid-19 during the school day, the class involved will be immediately isolated. Pupils will remain contained within an area away from other pupils until they can be safely dismissed.
  • Parents will be informed via text that there is a positive test of Covid-19 within the “bubble” which maybe a class, a key stage or site bubble. This is dependent on which school site the pupil attends.
  • At this point you will need to arrange to collect your child from school. Pupils will not be allowed to travel on school or public transport.
  • Pupils will need to self-isolate for 14 days. You will receive a letter from school giving further information and guidance.

Yours sincerely,

Lyndon Lewis
